Simplify Your message. Sharpen your intention.

The next time you’re stuck on a presentation or pitching your idea, ask yourself one question:

If I had to summarize my intention in one sentence- or better yet, one word- what would it be?

Don’t settle for the first word that comes to mind.

That word might be:

The outcome you need.

The emotion you want your audience to feel.

The behavior you want from a customer or end-user.

This isn’t about dumbing things down or diluting them.

It’s an act of simplifying your thought process.

Sharpening your intention.

Once you find the word (or the sentence)…

Build everything in service of it.

Remove anything that’s extraneous or doesn’t add value.

Simplifying your message is one of the most powerful ways to serve your audience:

  1. It lowers the cognitive load.

  2. Increases understanding.

  3. Makes your story easier to remember.

If you’re struggling to communicate an idea, don’t add more.

Simplify first.
